If you’re going to be using Dolby Atmos through a soundbar or home theater system, it’s free to use – but if you’re planning on listening through a gaming headset to 3D audio support, you’ll need to pay a one off fee of $15 through the Dolby Access app to use Dolby Atmos with headphones. Head to the Microsoft Store and you can download both apps. The only thing you’ll need to remember is that they’re not there automatically out of the box.
It has support for both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X positional audio. Soundwise, the Xbox Series X 4K Blu-ray player fares much better. You'll need to pay if you want to use Dolby Atmos with compatible headphones, but not with soundbars or home theater systems.
